Who are we?

The Inspire volunteer abroad program at Islamic Relief Canada is a unique opportunity that provides hands-on education to volunteers on the field and at home.  Over the past 4 years, we have taken 17 cohorts to 7 different countries to learn from our teams and right-holders on the ground. This program focuses on having volunteers raise donations and awareness while allowing them to serve their communities locally and globally.

Through this experience, IRC volunteers will engage directly with orphan children in South Africa in order to better understand their circumstances and raise awareness.

Support our volunteers and take part in supporting this noble cause!

What is this for?

The funds raised will go towards Islamic Relief’s projects in South Africa. This project in South Africa will empower vulnerable individuals and communities and engage with orphan children.

What will I be doing?

Over the duration of the field study, we will focus on providing orphans with psychosocial support and educational activities in addition to house rehabilitation, distribution of food and hygiene items and other community service activities.

Inspire Program

Islamic Relief Canada’s Volunteer Abroad Programs are a unique way to contribute to some of IR Canada’s international projects. Prior to volunteering abroad, selected volunteers to raise funds that go directly to the project they will be assisting with.

While on the field study, volunteers will be part of a collaborative program where they will take part in several activities, including peer-to-peer learning opportunities, food distributions, beneficiary home visits, and building refurbishment.

This experience allows volunteers to see an existing IR Canada project, contribute to the project through their fundraising efforts, and positively interact with beneficiaries and project staff.

Islamic Relief: South Africa

Islamic Relief has been working in South Africa since 2004 and has implemented projects that address healthcare, food insecurity, education, livelihoods, and orphan care. Over the past 19 years, Islamic Relief’s operations in South Africa aimed at developing and creating sustainable long-term solutions for impoverished communities, and not just handing out provisional hampers.

We prioritize the needs of orphans and vulnerable children. In 2005, we launched our orphans’ sponsorship program to provide assistance to child-headed households, girl children and homes with infants and younger children. We provide support to the household by offering skills training and development to guardians so that they can become self-sufficient.
