About the Sohan School
Government Girls School Sohan, situated in the Federal Capital Islamabad, stands as a crucial educational institution serving approximately 803 students, including a dedicated section for orphans. Despite its importance, certain segments of the school were in dire need of attention prior to intervention by Islamic Relief. Dilapidated rooms and worn-out walls awaited renovation and a fresh coat of paint. Thanks to the INSPIRE Projects initiative, significant improvements were made, including repairs to six rooms, two washrooms, and corridor walls. Additionally, the provision of furniture for science labs has contributed to an enriched learning environment. These renovations have uplifted the school's infrastructure, positively impacting both students and staff.
With 19 rooms, 12 washrooms, and a staff of 14 permanent members and 3 temporary staff, Sohan Girls' School in the Sohan area of Islamabad is strategically positioned to meet the educational needs of the local community. The school serves as a beacon of empowerment for young girls, with a diverse student body reflecting the socio-economic diversity of the surrounding area. Notably, a significant proportion of students hail from low-income families, including 20% who are orphans or from marginalized backgrounds. Prioritizing holistic development, the school offers extracurricular activities and support services to enhance student well-being. Through collaborative efforts and dedication to its community, Sohan Girls' School continues to shape the future of its students, empowering them to reach their full potential.
What is this for?
Join us in making a meaningful impact at Sohan School in Pakistan! The school management has identified crucial needs for the students, prioritizing the establishment of a comprehensive chemistry, biology, and physics labs facility. Access to a well-equipped lab is vital for enhancing students' practical learning experiences, fostering scientific curiosity, and preparing them for future academic and professional pursuits. With your support, we can fulfill these vital needs and provide students with essential resources for a brighter future.
The Inspire volunteer abroad program at Islamic Relief Canada is a unique opportunity that provides hands-on education to volunteers on the field and at home. Over the past 4 years, we have taken 26 cohorts to 9 different countries to learn from our teams and right-holders on the ground. This program focuses on having volunteers raise donations and awareness while allowing them to serve their communities locally and globally.
Through this experience, IRC volunteers will engage directly with orphan children in Pakistan to better understand their circumstances and raise awareness.
Support our volunteers and take part in supporting this noble cause!
Islamic Relief Canada’s Volunteer Abroad Programs are a unique way to contribute to some of IR Canada’s international projects. Before volunteering abroad, selected volunteers to raise funds that go directly to the project they will be assisting with.
While on the field study, volunteers will be part of a collaborative program where they will take part in several activities, including peer-to-peer learning opportunities, food distributions, beneficiary home visits, and building refurbishment.
This experience allows volunteers to see an existing IR Canada project, contribute to the project through their fundraising efforts, and positively interact with beneficiaries and project staff.

Since 1992, Islamic Relief Canada has been supporting vulnerable communities in Pakistan through WASH assistance, health services, the construction of shelters, winterization kits, livelihood development projects, and the distribution of food (including Ramadan and Qurbani programs). Pakistan is home to more than four million orphans. Being a vulnerable population, orphans are more likely to suffer from malnutrition, food insecurity, and physical/mental abuse compared to children living with their parents.
Islamic Relief works with communities to strengthen their resilience to calamities, and we provide vital emergency aid when disasters occur.
We help the impoverished access basic services, including education, water and sanitation, as well as healthcare. We provide lasting routes out of poverty through our sustainable development schemes. Our integrated approach to progress is transforming communities worldwide.
We tackle the root causes of poverty and make sure that the world’s most vulnerable people have real influence in both our programs and advocacy.
Our key values, of compassion, justice, custodianship, sincerity and excellence – a critical part of our Islamic faith - inspire us each and every day to create positive change and remember the sanctity of life.
In line with Islamic teachings on the value of every human life, we provide assistance to whoever needs it most, regardless of race, religion or gender. We work to transform and save lives of people in crisis both Canada and across the world.
Let us share the khair from the blessings Allah has bestowed upon us.
