Islamic Relief in Malaysia
Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) has been working alongside refugee and displaced communities since 2015, delivering critical support through food assistance, hygiene kits, healthcare services, shelter, and education. With the support of Islamic Relief Canada (IRC), IRM has implemented impactful initiatives, including the provision of educational supplies, nutritious school meals, mobile learning classes, health screenings, and school rehabilitation directly supporting refugee children from Rohingya, Somali, and Syrian communities.
In Sabah, this support has also been extended to stateless communities by improving learning centers to ensure safer, more inclusive, and child-friendly environments. These efforts create spaces where children can learn with dignity and feel supported. To further strengthen educational access, IRM established the Refugee Intellectual Skills and Excellence (RISE) program, which provides refugee children primarily from the Rohingya community with a safe, flexible, and nurturing learning environment. Through core academic learning and vocational skills development, RISE addresses educational gaps and equips children with essential skills for the future.
In response to inadequate learning conditions faced by stateless students in Sabah, where over 30 learning centers operate with limited resources, IRM has begun upgrading selected centers by enhancing infrastructure, improving classroom facilities, installing proper sanitation, and providing essential amenities. These improvements create more conducive learning spaces where volunteers and communities work together to support children’s growth and resilience.
