Noor Kashmir Initiative

Kashmir has been at the center of one of the world’s longest-running conflicts since 1947. Millions of civilians have lived through decades of displacement, violence, and loss with no end in sight. In May 2025, the situation escalated dramatically. Over 1,100 people were displaced, 32 lives were lost, and hundreds of homes and shops were destroyed in a matter of days. Families were forced to flee with nothing, sleeping in schools and tents with no clean water, food, or medical care. Children, elderly men and women, entire communities left with nowhere to go. The world moved on. We didn’t. The Noor Kashmir Initiative was born out of a simple belief that noor, meaning light, starts small. We are a group of students who refuse to look away. Every dollar we raise goes directly to Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), a 4-star Charity Navigator rated organization with vetted teams operating on the ground in Kashmir. Your donation is zakat-eligible and goes toward emergency food, clean water, medical care, and temporary shelter for displaced families. $10 provides clean water for a family for a week. $25 covers an emergency food package. $50 supplies a hygiene kit and medical essentials. $100 contributes toward temporary shelter. Our goal is $500. But more than the number, we want every person who reads this to feel the urgency and act. Kashmir has waited long enough. Be their noor.
