Support orphaned children and vulnerable communities in Zanzibar, crisis affected regions and other high-need countries with Abdullah Makhdoom

This August, I will be participating in the Inspire Volunteer Abroad Program with Islamic Relief Canada, where I will travel to Tanzania as part of a volunteer team working alongside local communities and humanitarian staff. The Inspire program gives volunteers the opportunity to learn about global humanitarian work while supporting community-based initiatives focused on education, youth empowerment, health and well-being, and community development. Through this experience, we will engage with local partners, contribute to ongoing projects, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges many communities face, including access to education, healthcare, and stable resources. The goal of the program is not only to support meaningful initiatives on the ground but also to help volunteers become more informed and responsible advocates for humanitarian work in their own communities. Any support, big or small, helps contribute to these efforts and make a meaningful difference. Together, we can support meaningful change and make a lasting impact.

Supporting orphaned children and vulnerable communities in Zanzibar, crisis-affected regions, and high-need countries.

Islamic Relief Canada is committed to supporting orphaned children and vulnerable communities worldwide. Through education, psychosocial support, emergency relief, and sustainable development initiatives, we strive to uplift those in need. Your generosity helps provide essential resources and long-term solutions, bringing hope and stability to the most vulnerable. Together, we can make a lasting impact.

Who Are We?

The Inspire volunteer abroad program at Islamic Relief Canada is a unique opportunity that provides hands-on education to volunteers on the field and at home. Over the past 7 years, we have taken 60 cohorts to 14 different countries to learn from our teams and right-holders on the ground. This program focuses on having volunteers raise donations and awareness while allowing them to serve their communities locally and globally.
Through this experience, IRC volunteers will engage directly with vulnerable communities in Zanzibar to better understand their circumstances and raise awareness. Support our volunteers' efforts and take part in supporting these noble causes!

What is this for?

This fundraising effort supports Islamic Relief Canada’s work with orphaned children and vulnerable communities in Zanzibar and worldwide, long-term development projects and Islamic Relief's global emergency initiatives wherever the need is greatest. Your contributions will directly empower vulnerable communities, particularly children and youth, through educational programs, psychosocial support activities, community service projects such as school and home rehabilitation, and the distribution of food and hygiene kits. These initiatives address socio-economic challenges, build resilience, and promote long-term self-reliance. Your support will make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need, where it is needed most.
Your donation variously helps our rightsholders; $1080 is used to sponsor an orphan for a year, whilst the rest of the money is used towards humanitarian projects in Zanzibar and high-need countries.

What will we be doing?

During the field study, we will prioritize offering psychosocial support and educational activities for orphans, alongside distributing food, clothing, and hygiene items. We will also engage in various community service initiatives and visit local projects to gain a deeper understanding of the ongoing efforts in the region.

Inspire Program

Islamic Relief Canada’s Volunteer Abroad Programs are a unique way to contribute to some of IR Canada’s international projects. Before volunteering abroad, selected volunteers raise funds that go directly to the project they will be assisting with. While on the field study, volunteers will be part of a collaborative program where they will take part in several activities, including peer-to-peer learning opportunities, food distributions, beneficiary home visits, and building refurbishment.
This experience allows volunteers to see an existing IR Canada project, contribute to the project through their fundraising efforts, and positively interact with beneficiaries and project staff.

Islamic Relief

Since 1984, Islamic Relief has been dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities through a range of vital programs, including WASH assistance, healthcare, shelter construction, winterization aid, and livelihood development. We also address food insecurity by providing essential food distributions, including during Ramadan and Qurbani. These initiatives help families rebuild their lives and provide critical relief in times of need.
A key focus of our work is supporting orphaned children, who are particularly at risk of malnutrition, food insecurity, and abuse. Our programs offer education, psychosocial support, and safe living conditions, empowering orphans and vulnerable children to build a better future. Together, we can help create lasting change, fostering resilience and self-reliance in communities worldwide.
