40 Years With Islamic Relief

Remembering a Legacy of Compassion and Change

For four decades, Islamic Relief has been weaving a thread of hope, compassion, and positive change across 40 countries. With your support, we've touched the lives of 120 million people, creating a world where no one is left behind. Join us in honoring our 40th anniversary and continue the journey of transforming lives. Thank you for being part of our story.

This fundraiser is being organized by
The Inspire Volunteer Abroad Program

This year, we will join a volunteering abroad program with Islamic Relief Canada in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

The focus is on learning and engaging with vulnerable individuals and communities through various means including hosting an educational camp for orphans, offering psychosocial support programs, and participating in community service projects such as school and/or home rehabilitation and distributing food and essential supplies.

Your donations will exclusively contribute to supporting the communities served and long-term projects implemented by Islamic Relief Canada in Bosnia.

What is this for?

The funds raised will go towards Islamic Relief’s projects in Bosnia. This project in Bosnia will empower vulnerable individuals and communities and engage with orphan children. Besides the funds going towards the Inspire psychosocial programming for orphans, they will also go towards long term projects in the region. They will be contributed towards livelihood support and psychosocial support. Agriculture and animal rearing resources will be provided to increase income-generating opportunities. Families will be provided with greenhouses, livestock, and specialized training.

What will I be doing?

Throughout the field study, we will focus on providing orphans with psychosocial support and educational activities in addition to distributing food, clothes, and hygiene items and conducting other community service activities.

We will also be visiting Islamic Relief projects in the region to better understand the work being done there.

The Inspire volunteer abroad program at Islamic Relief Canada is a unique opportunity that provides hands-on education to volunteers on the field and at home. Over the past 4 years, we have taken 26 cohorts to 9 different countries to learn from our teams and right-holders on the ground. This program focuses on having volunteers raise donations and awareness while allowing them to serve their communities locally and globally.

The volunteers will be engaging directly with vulnerable communities and orphan children in Bosnia to learn about their situation, and to raise awareness.

Support our volunteers and take part in supporting this noble cause!

Islamic Relief Canada’s Volunteer Abroad Programs are a unique way to contribute to some of IR Canada’s international projects. Before volunteering abroad, selected volunteers to raise funds that go directly to the project they will be assisting with.

While on the field study, volunteers will be part of a collaborative program where they will take part in several activities, including peer-to-peer learning opportunities, food distributions, beneficiary home visits, and building refurbishment.

This experience allows volunteers to see an existing IR Canada project, contribute to the project through their fundraising efforts, and positively interact with beneficiaries and project staff.

Islamic Relief has been working in Bosnia since 1993 and has implemented projects that address healthcare, food insecurity, education, livelihoods, and orphan care. After the war, we established an office in Sarajevo and served communities to rebuild homes and schools and provide Ramadan and Qurbani food packages.

Through our humanitarian and development projects, we implement food security, livelihood, non-food items, education, and psycho-social support.

We prioritize the needs of orphans and vulnerable children. In 2005, we launched our orphans’ sponsorship program to provide assistance to child-headed households, girl children and homes with infants and younger children.

We provide support to the household by offering skills training and development to guardians so that they can become self-sufficient.

Islamic Relief works with communities to strengthen their resilience to calamities, and we provide vital emergency aid when disasters occur.

We help the impoverished access basic services, including education, water and sanitation, as well as healthcare. We provide lasting routes out of poverty through our sustainable development schemes. Our integrated approach to progress is transforming communities worldwide.

We tackle the root causes of poverty and make sure that the world’s most vulnerable people have real influence in both our programs and advocacy.

Our key values, of compassion, justice, custodianship, sincerity and excellence – a critical part of our Islamic faith - inspire us each and every day to create positive change and remember the sanctity of life.

In line with Islamic teachings on the value of every human life, we provide assistance to whoever needs it most, regardless of race, religion or gender. We work to transform and save lives of people in crisis both Canada and across the world.

Let us share the khair from the blessings Allah has bestowed upon us.
