Support Us in Transforming Healthcare for Vulnerable Communities in Syria

The Syrian conflict, now spanning over a decade, has devastated the healthcare system, leaving millions without access to essential medical services. Among the most critical and neglected areas are ophthalmology and ENT (ear, nose, and throat). Years of conflict have led to damaged infrastructure, a shortage of trained professionals, and an overwhelming backlog of patients needing specialized care.

Recent developments, including the liberation of the entire country under a new regime, have allowed the return of thousands of refugees and displaced people. While this marks a positive step, it has placed additional strain on the already fragile healthcare system. Addressing these significant gaps is critical to supporting the reintegration and well-being of returning populations.

This mission is a crucial step in transforming the healthcare landscape in Syria. By combining expertise, resources, and training, volunteering with Islamic Relief Canada and UOSSM, we aim to empower local healthcare providers and deliver much-needed medical services in ophthalmology and ENT.

Our Goal

Our goal in this mission is to:
Address the backlog of ophthalmology and ENT cases.
Restore health and improve patient outcomes.
Enhance the capacity of local doctors to perform advanced procedures.
Strengthen healthcare systems to sustainably address future needs.

As volunteer doctors on this mission, our aim is to provide the following services:

Ophthalmology

Provide advanced surgeries in:
Vitreoretinal
Pediatric Ophthalmology
Glaucoma
Eyelid Surgeries

ENT

Provide specialized care in:
Rhinology (nose and sinus)
Ear, Skull Base, and Neurotology

UOSSM Canada (Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations – Canada) is our key medical partner. It is an independent, nonprofit, non-governmental humanitarian organization dedicated to addressing the health-related needs of people and communities affected by crises, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, or political affiliation. Committed to building sustainable healthcare services and reducing human suffering, UOSSM Canada operates with a strictly non-political and non-sectarian mission.

Islamic Relief Canada

Islamic Relief Canada is a registered charity and a proud member of the Humanitarian Coalition, dedicated to providing emergency aid and sustainable development programs worldwide. Through its Inspire Volunteer Abroad Program, volunteers have the opportunity to contribute to impactful international projects. Before travelling, they raise funds that directly support the communities they will serve.
This year’s mission to Syria will focus on vision and hearing treatments for vulnerable patients.
