Support My Ride to Provide Emergency Aid in Palestine
From September 14th to September 22nd, I'm participating in the Türkiye Cycling Challenge with Islamic Relief Canada to raise funds for emergency aid to the people of Gaza, who are enduring severe hardships.
Why This Matters:
Over 92000 Palestinians have been injured and over 40,000 people killed, with nearly 1.8 million people forcefully displaced. According to a study published in the journal Lancet, the death toll in Gaza could exceed 186,000. The lack of fuel, clean water, and limited food supplies has forced the healthcare system into a state of total collapse, causing significant levels of dehydration, starvation, and disease.
In the face of the most catastrophic destruction and humanitarian crisis to date in Gaza, children are paying the heaviest price. Nearly half of Gaza’s population are children, with over 450,000 currently left without a home. Almost 17,000 children have been killed and over 25,000 Palestinian children have been orphaned and no longer have the emotional or financial support to survive. Islamic Relief currently has hundreds of orphans registered in their system waiting to be sponsored, and with each passing day, more and more orphans are becoming in dire need of urgent support.
With tens of thousands of homes destroyed and countless families seeking shelter in overcrowded schools, hospitals and tents, the need for basic survival items is urgent. By supporting Islamic Relief, we can help bring relief and dignity to those who need it most.
My Goal:
I aim to raise $5000 to supply food, sanitation essentials, and other basic survival items to those affected by this crisis. Islamic Relief is on the ground in Gaza, delivering daily ready-to-eat hot meals, hygiene kits, clean water, and psychosocial support for children. They have distributed 27 million hot meals thus far. There is dire need with each passing day and your support will directly fund these life-saving efforts.
The Challenge:
Cycling through Turkey, I'll be pushing my physical limits while immersing myself in the rich history of the Ottoman Empire. It will be a unique experience joining many others like me from different countries coming together for a cause we deeply care about.
Why I care:
Children should be living life, not fighting for it or be orphaned or maimed or left to die. Many children are going through amputations without anesthesia or left in extreme pain due to severe skin burns. The cycling challenge will be difficult, but it's nothing compared to what these innocent children are facing every day. Every mile I bike will be in honour of the innocent children who have died and many more who are struggling to survive.
