Aleppo Kebab Fundraiser

When we first began working together, Aleppo Kebab asked which villages Islamic Relief was supporting in Syria. They were hesitant to request support for their own village, where they knew families were struggling, because they understood that humanitarian assistance needed to reach those with the greatest needs. Islamic Relief explained that our teams conduct needs assessments to identify communities facing the most urgent challenges and determine where resources can have the greatest impact. Understanding this approach, Aleppo Kebab chose to move forward with the partnership, even knowing that the support might not reach their own village.

Then, during the very next distribution, the partnership came full circle. Louai, the owner of Aleppo Kebab, received a FaceTime call from his uncle in Syria. On the other end of the call were Islamic Relief aid trucks in his own village, distributing bread to his neighbours.

What began as a commitment to support the Syrian community as a whole unexpectedly became personal. It was a powerful reminder that humanitarian work is not only about reaching communities in need. It is about building trust, responding to needs fairly, and creating moments of impact that can reach much closer to home than expected.
