Honoring the Sunnah: Caring for the World’s Orphans

No child should have to endure the experience of losing a parent, but sadly, millions of orphans know all too well what it feels like. Our commitment derives from the compassion we owe to our fellow human beings as dictated by the teachings of our religion. Indeed, as taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who declared, "Myself and the caretaker of an orphan will be in Paradise like this," while holding his index and middle fingers together.

This mission is urgent: every year, over 12 million children are orphaned, with 1 in 5 lacking access to any basic necessities. We are witnessing the largest orphan crises in modern history in zones like Gaza, Yemen, and Sudan, where 1 in 4 orphans live in conflict, facing malnutrition and water-borne diseases.

By means of your charitable donations, we work towards fulfilling a multitude of needs through your assistance in providing orphans with proper educational opportunities, proper medical care, and sufficient nutrition for growth. No one should take away from any child the inherent rights of protection and provision in the face of hardship.

Working as a collective, we aim to provide far more than temporary short term comfort and basic necessities, but rather the necessary means for achieving total independence for orphans in nearly 26 countries around the world. In response to these systemic inequities, the Bridge to Belonging Orphan Care campaign, in partnership with Islamic Relief Canada, provides a holistic ‘new lease of life.’ We focus on four primary pillars: Medical Aid (treatments and equipment), educational support, shelter repair, and orphan projects for social welfare. We serve children in countries including: Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Kosova, Lebanon, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Pakistan, Palestine (Gaza), Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, and Yemen. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, where over 50 million children are orphaned, your support protects them from exploitation and abuse. As the Quran reminds us, “Whoever saves the life of one, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind.” Not only will we provide a source of Sadaqah Jariyah, but you will also gain a blessing which will be yours forever insha'Allah.
