With over 12.4 million people forcibly displaced–the highest number of internally displaced people (IDPs) globally– and over 3.3 million having fled to neighbouring countries, Sudan continues to suffer from one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. In addition to the ongoing violence, civilians are also struggling to access clean water, food, and medical supplies. This conflict only amplified many of Sudan’s pre-existing challenges, including persistent violence, disease outbreaks, economic and political instability, and climate-related crises.
These factors, along with the consistent violence, have led to the death of over 60,000 Sudanese in the Khartoum region alone, with over 90% of deaths going unrecorded. Over 30 million–two-thirds of the country's population–are in dire need of humanitarian aid. The United Nations reports that nearly 17.7 million are facing acute food insecurity, with 5 million at emergency or famine levels (IPC Phase 4). In conflict zones such as Darfur and Khartoum, civilians are facing mass killings, ethnic violence, and starvation, with entire communities cut off from aid.
Despite the overwhelming need, humanitarian funding remains drastically low, with less than 30% of the UN’s appeal for Sudan met. Without immediate international support, millions more are at risk of displacement, disease, and death.
Islamic Relief USA is on the ground working to help those in need. They provide access to clean water, sanitation, hygiene, food, shelter, and medical care. IRUSA has made a significant impact on the people of Sudan by providing the following:
- Food aid to 7,000 people
- Access to clean water for over 70,000 people
- Access to medical and psychosocial care for over 50,000 people
- Access to agricultural tools for over 30,000 people
- Cash assistance to over 30,000 people
- And so much more!
Through the Seeds for Sudan campaign, we strive to raise awareness of this crisis and support those in need by raising funds. Our goal is to help families and communities rebuild and provide a brighter future for the children of Sudan.
Some incentives that we plan to carry out are:
