# **Restore Sight. Restore Hope.**

In Gaza, access to essential medical care has become incredibly difficult, leaving many patients without the treatment they urgently need. For those living with cataracts and other serious eye conditions, the inability to access surgery can mean more than discomfort — it can mean losing their independence, their ability to work, learn, care for their families, and see the world around them.

That’s why **RFP–London is supporting Islamic Relief Canada’s Eye Cataract Surgery Project** at the Specialized Eye Hospital in Northern Gaza, one of the key functioning ophthalmic facilities providing specialized eye care to conflict-affected communities.

The hospital provides vital outpatient, inpatient, diagnostic, and surgical services, treating conditions including cataracts, retinal and corneal diseases, glaucoma, pediatric eye conditions, and trauma-related injuries.

### **The Impact So Far**

Through Phase 1 of the project, **9,782 people** received support, with **13,478 consultations** and more than **122,562 clinical services** provided. A total of **1,136 ophthalmic surgeries** were performed across multiple specialties, including **359 cataract surgeries**.

For someone living with a cataract, a surgery costing approximately **$1,200 CAD** can be life-changing — helping restore their ability to see, move independently, work, care for their family, and participate in everyday life.

### **The Need Continues**

Phase 2 of the project is already underway. In its first two months alone, approximately **519 ophthalmic surgeries** were performed, including cataract, retinal, glaucoma, corneal, pediatric, and oculoplastic procedures.

The demand remains immense.

Patients are prioritized based on medical need and urgency, with a focus on vulnerable conflict-affected populations, including low-income families, elderly individuals at risk of preventable blindness, people suffering from trauma-related eye injuries, and children and adults requiring specialized care.
