A staggering 785 million people are going thirsty each and every day. Without safe and clean water to drink, these people risk dehydration, disease and at worse: death.
Donate now and provide water for life.
The best charity is giving water to drink and
He was the most generous in giving charity.” (Ahmad)

 Building a Well in Niger

When you donate water wells, not only does it act as a Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity) but you also help communities facing water scarcity access clean and safe water. Your generous donations are helping us to reach over 200,000 people through over 100 water wells, hand pumps, and water infrastructure to provide clean water for life.
The funds from my campaign will fund a portion of a solar powered well in Niger, built by Islamic Relief.
This will support communities in Niger by:
Offering life-saving clean water to thousands of students by installing water tanks at various schools
Supporting agropastoral farmers
Ensuring that families can directly access clean water
Creating water management committees and providing local community members with the training to manage their community’s water systems

 Build a Community Solar-Powered Well

Our solar powered borehole wells offer a long-term solution to water scarcity and provide water to thousands of people. The water is pumped from a depth of over 100m, using electricity generated from solar panels, making it a reliable clean, sustainable solution – even in the most remote areas. A solar powered borehole means an entire water system, piped to key areas with taps for easy supply.
In many countries, communities continue to suffer from acute water scarcity, with 60% of the population with little or not access to clean drinking water. Climate change has further exacerbated the water crisis by increasing severe water stress across various regions. This has caused chronic food insecurity and malnutrition in children.
This is where your support can make a difference! Our solar powered borehole wells can supply enough water for an entire community. They come with a water tank and an additional water distribution system for drinking and irrigation. This will not only reduce disease but also enhance food security within these local communities. Islamic Relief also makes sure to establish and train local water management committees to ensure sustainability for each community.

 Administrative Fees and Overhead

Islamic Relief Canada is a humanitarian organization and a registered charity with a simple but important mission: To mobilize Canadians to transform more lives around the world in the most trusted manner. That promise takes work. It cannot happen without an investment of resources – it takes money, people, power, coordination, partnerships, marketing, monitoring and evaluation, operations, legal and financial compliance — and so much more — to create, implement, and continue to enhance the large number of programs we deliver.
Based on our most recent audited financial statements, for every dollar you give to Islamic Relief Canada, about 15 cents (or 15.4%) is incurred as overhead, split into a 4.5% administrative operating cost and 10.9% fundraising costs so that we can reach and help even more people in need. Our administrative costs support essential functions that keep our organization running in a reliable and compliant manner — including technology, finance, legal and compliance, donor services, human resources, volunteer engagement, government and media outreach.
Fundraising costs that allow us to continue to grow include credit card processing fees, digital advertising, community events, marketing collateral, sponsorships and a grassroots fundraising team across Canada that cultivates donors and supporters. That means 85 cents (or 84.6%) of every dollar is invested in programs delivering relief and development to those in need across the world. This is well-above the standard recommended by Charity Intelligence Canada, one of the leading charity-rating organizations in Canada, which maintains that a “reasonable range” for overhead spending is up to 35%, hence highly efficient charities are able to spend up to 65% on programs. With an 15.4% overhead cost, we fall well within the median of overhead costs for nonprofit charity organizations.
