Empowering Our Mosques, Empowering Our Community

Markaz Ul Islam is vital to the daily lives of our Muslim community. The Markaz is not only focused on maintaining a safe space for daily prayers, but continues to offer social services through these challenging times. These social services help all ages and groups including the youth. Please help support the Markaz during these challenging times and to continue working toward the vision to build a fully multifaceted facility and community hub. The Markaz's current and future services include: religious counseling, youth support and programming, parenting, crisis management, marriage services, funeral services, community domestic projects, emergency response during natural disasters and much more.

We are currently under construction and nearing the finish line. Please donate as we try to reach the goal of servicing our community.

For every $2 raised, Islamic Relief Canada will donate $1.

Those who help the masjid by giving time or financial donations are the ones whose reward is manifold.

About Markaz-ul-Islam Society

History

Muslims of Edmonton in general and those in Millwoods area and south side in particular gathered many times in 1981-82 to discuss the need of praying Salat in congregation and provide Islamic education for children. Subsequently, an Ad hoc committee was formed to search for a permanent location for the Masjid. The land was bought in 1982 and application for rezoning was made.

The Markaz-ul-Islam Society of Edmonton (MSE) was established in 1982 and is registered for a non-profit charitable religious organization with Revenue Canada. The main objectives of the society are to preserve Muslim identity in a non-Islamic environment, to present true meaning of Islam to non-Muslims, to establish an Islamic center, to provide religo-social services, and to promote Islamic education and values.

Alhamdulillah, by the efforts, hard work and dedication of our brothers and sisters in this community, the Masjid (Markaz) was built and opened for worshipping Allah (SWT) in the fall of 1986. The Masjid project brought the Muslim community as one Ummah who showed that they could achieve their goal of building a Masjid by the help of Allah (SWT) and through their own local efforts and resources.

Over the years the MSE has managed a Madrasah for providing Quranic teaching and Islamic education. It has also provided a forum to the Muslim Community by organizing seminars, workshops and conferences to sensitize, discuss and find solutions to the socio-religious issues being faced by the Edmonton Muslim Community, specifically the youth.

The Masjid has always been in the forefront in recognizing and presenting awards and certificates to the Madrasah students (children and the youth) for their accomplishments.

Islamic Relief works with communities to strengthen their resilience to calamities, and we provide vital emergency aid when disasters occur.

We help the impoverished access basic services, including education, water and sanitation, as well as healthcare. We provide lasting routes out of poverty through our sustainable development schemes. Our integrated approach to progress is transforming communities worldwide.

We tackle the root causes of poverty and make sure that the world’s most vulnerable people have real influence in both our programs and advocacy.

Our key values, of compassion, justice, custodianship, sincerity and excellence – a critical part of our Islamic faith - inspire us each and every day to create positive change and remember the sanctity of life.

In line with Islamic teachings on the value of every human life, we provide assistance to whoever needs it most, regardless of race, religion or gender. We work to transform and save lives of people in crisis both Canada and across the world.

Let us share the khair from the blessings Allah has bestowed upon us.
