Empowering Our Mosques, Empowering Our Community

Let us take you on a journey back to 1995, when a humble group of Muslims gathered in a small rented office on Kingsway Avenue in Port Coquitlam. They envisioned a place where the community could come together, worship, learn, and support one another. Thus, the Tri-City Islamic Centre was born.

From its modest beginnings, the centre quickly became a hub for Muslims from seven cities, providing essential services such as Friday prayers, Quran and Sunnah teachings, Arabic language classes, and support for family affairs.

But it didn't stop there. With unwavering dedication and the grace of Allah, our dream expanded. On August 15, 2003, our beautiful mosque was inaugurated, a testament to the unity and perseverance of our community.

With separate prayer facilities for men and women, an Islamic resource library, wudhu and shower facilities, a kitchen and cafeteria, a ghusl funeral preparation room, and even a secluded courtyard with a secure play area for our children, our mosque complex stands as a beacon of faith, education, and community spirit.

But our journey is far from over. As we approach Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, we invite you to join us in supporting our mosque. Your generosity will enable us to continue providing essential services, nurturing the spiritual growth of our community, and ensuring that our mosque remains a welcoming sanctuary for all.

Together, let's uphold the values of worship, service, and community that lie at the heart of our faith. With your support, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of Muslims in British Columbia and beyond.

About Masjid Al-Hidayah

About

In the year 1995, a small group of Muslims rented a 500 sq. ft. office on the upper level of a strip plaza located at 2462 Kingsway Avenue, in the City of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada and named it The Tri-City Islamic Centre. Before this step, few Muslim families used to gather every Friday and offer Jummah (Friday) prayers in a room linked to Terry Fox Library, in Port Coquitlam. The Tri-City Islamic Centre facility was mainly used for Jummah and the five daily prayers and later progressed its services to include the teaching of Qur'an and Sunnah to children and adults, Arabic Language and special family affairs services.

Although the name is Tri-City, indeed the Centre served Muslims from seven cities: Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, New Westminster, Burnaby, and Maple Ridge. The Management Committee consisted of brothers and sisters who came from different parts of the world representing Muslims from all continents.

They pledged to achieve the ultimate aim and objective of every Muslim, which is to seek the pleasure of Allah, by worshipping Him, serving fellow humans, and strive to make Allah's Word supreme. Thus, the commitment was to help Muslims achieve those ideas through the collective efforts of all involved Insha Allah.

With the help of Allah, the dream came true and the Mosque was opened on August 15, 2003.

Designed by an award winning local Muslim architect, Studio Senbel Architecture + Design, the building draws on the great traditions of Islamic architecture, reinterpreted and adapted for the local climate and building materials in British Columbia. Generous glasswork in the prayer hall is designed to allow maximum natural light in.
